What started out as just another horror film has developed into just another horror franchise. But while the tropes of horror movie productions of yesteryear are present in the strategy for Insidious, fans are hoping that their beloved film series doesn’t just dilute itself like every other film in the horror genre.

That’s a legitimate fear today as FilmDistrict has announced that Insidious 3 will indeed be happening and have announced the sequel on the heels of an impressive weekend at the box office for the second film in the series.

According to Deadline, who first reported, the third film in the franchise has been green-lit and will begin after director James Wan wraps up production on Fast & Furious 7.

Insidious and Insidious: Chapter 2 screenwriter Leigh Whannell will return to pen a third installment of the hit horror franchise for Blumhouse Productions, Entertainment One, FilmDistrict, and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions.

This is great news for fans of the franchise but isn’t so much what everyone was looking for. Like all popular horror movies, sequels are inevitable but the situation with Insidious 3 is one to watch. Not all horror franchise fall into this trap more often than not the longer a series drags on, the lower the quality of the product becomes.
