"We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!"

Okay, not today. Monday. On Monday night, live from New Mexico, Independence Day director Roland Emmerich and the cast of his wildly anticipated sequel will be holding a press conference where they are expected to reveal details about next summer’s blockbuster… even dropping the title of the ID4 follow up (if rumors are to be believed). And you are able to tune in! We are on the ground here in Albuquerque, New Mexico, visiting the set of the second Independence Day, and we’ll have plenty to report back to CinemaBlend readers about the sequel. But if you want to hear some of the information first hand, from the director and his cast, bookmark this page, and tune back in at 9 pm EST / 6 pm PST on Monday, June 22. The teleconference will be beamed live to the Web via this YouTube feed, so keep this page handy:

Roland Emmerich’s sequel to Independence Day will take place 20 years after the events of the original 1996 blockbuster, which saw a fleet of alien spaceships coming down to our planet, hovering over Earth’s major cities, and destroying our key landmarks. Who can forget the destruction of the White House and the Empire State Building, easily one of the most memorable scenes from that summer season?

The majority of the original cast is back for the sequel to Independence Day, and they all will be part of the Monday evening teleconference. Roland Emmerich will be joined by Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Angelababy, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward, Jessie Usher and Liam Hemsworth for an all-star presentation that is expected to set thet stage for next summer’s film.

The official synopsis we have for Emmerich's Independence Day sequel is as follows:

Independence Day was just the beginning. We always knew they were coming back. After that film redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter in the Independence Day universe delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction."

Roland Emmerich's Independence Day sequel opens in theaters on June 24, 2016. Look for plenty more from our set visit in the coming days and weeks!
