‘Inbetweeners 2′ Scores Biggest U.K. Opening Weekend Box Office in 2014!

LONDON — British youth comedy “The Inbetweeners 2” has scored the biggest opening weekend box office in the U.K. this year. The film nabbed more than £12.5 million ($21 million).

The pic took over £2.7 million ($4.5 million) on its opening day, Wednesday, which is the biggest ever opening day for a comedy at the U.K. box office.

The film’s predecessor, “The Inbetweeners Movie,” took more than £45 million ($75.5 million) at the U.K. box office in 2011.

The films are based on the television series “The Inbetweeners,” which aired on Channel 4’s youth channel E4, and was BAFTA nommed. The films are written and directed by the TV series creators, Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, and produced by Spencer Millman.

“The Inbetweeners 2” is produced by Bwark Prods., which is part of Zodiak Media, and co-financed with Film4. Entertainment Film Distributors is distributing the film in the U.K. and Ireland.
