‘Hunters’ Cancelled by Syfy After One Season

Syfy has cancelled drama series “Hunters” after one 13-episode season, Variety has confirmed.

The series, about government agents fighting a secret cell of alien terrorists, garnered low ratings and poor reviews over its brief run. Writing for Variety in April, Brian Lowry called the series premiere “utterly generic, conceptually cynical and instantly forgettable.” He added that the show “feels completely disposable, having likely found its way to Syfy because this shot-in-Australia drama was a relative bargain. Let’s hope so, anyway, because there’s nothing in the first couple of hours that warrants seeking it out.”

Produced by Universal Cable Productions, “Hunters” was one of several recent new dramas that were part of renewed push by Syfy into scripted science fiction programming. But the show failed to catch the same traction as series such as “12 Monkeys,” “The Magicians” and “The Expanse,” all of which earned renewals this year.

“Hunters” was executive produced by Natalie Chaidez, Gale Anne Hurd and Emile Levisetti. Co-executive producers were Terri Burton and Ron Milbauer. The series starred Nathan Phillips, Britne Oldford, Lewis Fitz-Gerald, Mark Coles Smith, Julian McMahon, Gareth Davies, Shannon Berry and Laura Gordon. “Hunters” was based on the novel “Alien Hunter” by Whitley Strieber.

The series finale aired Monday on Syfy.
