Things are about to become lot more serious for Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) is the next installment of The Hunger Games series. As if wasn’t serious enough for her, having survived not one, but two death arenas and having lived her entire life under oppression and in poverty.

With The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, Katniss will transform from rebellious teen making a mockery of The Capital into the ever-present symbol for Panem’s oncoming revolution; a transition that will not come easy. This stage was set at the end of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which saw the revolution make a decisive move by rescuing Katniss from the arena and openly revealing themselves (as well as the existence of the presumed-destroyed District 13).

Now the revolution – led by District 13′s President Coin (Julianne Moore) – is poised to use her as the mouthpiece for their propaganda machine, a role Katniss isn’t entirely sure she wants to accept. Making matters even more complicated is the fact that when the revolution sprung Katniss from the arena, Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) was captured by The Capitol, who are using him as their own force of propaganda.

In a new clip shared on ABC’s Good Morning America you can see Katniss and Gale (Liam Hemsworth) getting their first look at The Capital’s twisted version of Peeta. Watch it above, along with a Q & A from the series’ affable, young stars.

Clearly, whether Peeta is actually a Capital stooge or simply another victim of their manipulation will be a point of contention between Katniss and her fellow revolutionaries, Gale especially. Of course, some of his ire is likely due to Katniss’ continued affection for Peeta – something that’s only further evidenced by her unwillingness to believe Peeta would ever truly betray her.

The Hunger Games series has done a better job than most YA franchises at balancing its love triangle with the story’s heavy political themes. And as Mockingjay – Part 1‘s early reviews indicate, the drama and tension surrounding both of those aspects only intensifies is this penultimate act.

Check out two more TV spots for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 below; the first again highlighting how the revolution and The Capital are both using Katniss and Peeta, and the second an interesting twist on the typical tie-in, movie marketing.

Seeing as propaganda and its use by both sides will be a large chunk of what’s happening in Mockingjay – Part 1, this Mazda ad is especially clever. So much so, some of you likely thought we’d embedded the wrong video! It’s nothing more than reuse of footage from an earlier viral ad, but it’s the placement – mimicking how Mockingjay‘s revolutionaries hack The Capital’s messages – that make it so unique.
