Batman has his sights firmly set on making sure Superman isn’t a threat to humanity in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but the Man of Steel isn’t the only superbeing who he’ll meet. The Caped Crusader will also cross paths with the movie’s tertiary hero, Wonder Woman, both in their costumed and civilian personas. While Bruce Wayne looks at the Kryptonian with distrust and fear (at first), interacting with the Amazon will have a more positive effect on him, according to Ben Affleck.

Noting how Wonder Woman has been “doing this for ages” (in other words, been a force for good over thousands of years) and isn’t the cynical mess he is, EW asked Ben Affleck how she’ll play into Batman’s thinking. This was his response:
It inspires in him the idea that well, if there’s one of these kinds of people out there, then maybe there are in fact more. If there are more, then maybe that’s hopeful and also terrifying to him, because then they could make humans even more powerless — or they could serve on our side. You’ve got to remember that Batman is the world’s greatest detective, and if he suspects that there may be more, and if he suspects in particular that Diana may be somebody special, he gets inspired.
Although Ben Affleck’s Batman has been fighting crime in Gotham City for 20+ years, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be his first time dealing with superpowered beings. As dangerous as the criminals in his hometown are, Batman’s out of his element when it comes to aliens, Amazons, and all these other “specials,” but with Diana’s help it looks like she’ll change his views. Because he’s paranoid, Bruce assumes that people with special abilities are dangerous, but after learning about what Wonder Woman has accomplished, he realizes that not all of them are set on unleashing destruction. Some of them are capable of being forces for good.

We’ve seen in the previews that Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince will be chatting at a fancy gala, with Bruce incorrectly assuming that he’s known a few women like her. They seem to strike up a rapport, and while it remains to be seen how often they’ll be on screen together, they’ll join Superman in the climax battling Doomsday, the monster somehow created by Lex Luthor from General Zod’s corpse. These two will reunite in Justice League: Part One, although it was rumored last year that he might also show up in Wonder Woman’s present-day scenes. Ben Affleck also mentioned later in the interview that meeting Wonder Woman not only excites him, but also makes it necessary that he “finds more of them if they are, in fact, out there." Perhaps this is how the DC superhero team gets formed in November 2017.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25.
