Kang the Conqueror is shaping up to be the next big bad that the Avengers will face in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he may be even more powerful than Earth's mightiest heroes. The Avengers have taken down multiple threats over the course of the MCU, both as a team and individually, with the strongest threat being Thanos in the Infinity Saga. Thanos was nearly more powerful than the Avengers, as he was actually able to execute his evil plan in Infinity War, forcing the team to use time travel to reverse it and finally take out the mad Titan.

However, despite Thanos' power, Kang may be an even bigger threat to not only the Avengers or the universe, but to the multiverse as a whole. At this year's D23 Expo, footage of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was revealed. It shows Kang meeting Scott in the Quantum Realm and appearing surprised when it is revealed he is an Avenger. Kang then asks, "Have I killed you before? They all blur together." making it clear that Kang is no stranger to the Avengers, and he has killed them before, likely multiple times. This claim proves that not only has Kang overcome multiple versions of the famous superhero team in the past, but has become so blasé about it that meeting a new opponent is no longer seen as a challenge. This makes Kang even scarier than Thanos, hinting at just how threatening and powerful he could be.

Has Kang Killed The Avengers In Marvel Comics?

In the comics, Kang has certainly posed a huge threat for the Avengers. In one storyline, a variant of Kang disguises himself to look like Iron Man and manages to kill not only all the Avengers but the President of the United States as well. Unfortunately for him, Kang's victory was short-lived. The plan backfired on him as the Council of Kang variants in turn killed him for setting off a war that could destroy the very world he wanted to rule. Nevertheless, this story proves how just one Kang variant has the potential to wipe out the Avengers in a way Thanos could only dream of. Kang's victory is the darkest Avengers story to date, which means that seeing Kang on the big screen will likely showcase much of that same darkness.

Will Kang Be More Powerful Than The Avengers In The MCU?

Kang has already proven to be a bigger threat than Thanos due to the multiversal element of his story. Due to the events of Loki unleashing infinite Kang variants across the multiverse, simply killing Kang is not an option for the Avengers. While one Kang variant may or may not be more powerful than the Avengers as a whole, Kang the Conqueror as a concept encompasses all of his variants.

It is unlikely that the comic book story where Kang impersonated Iron Man will play out in the MCU, since Iron Man already died in Avengers: Endgame, although it may be referenced as happening in another part of the multiverse. Nevertheless, as the new team of Avengers eventually team up for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty they will encounter a bigger threat than they have ever faced before. The MCU will have to get very creative in how the Avengers take down Kang and there will most definitely be heroes lost along the way. Given his potential power level, his claims of killing Avengers, and the sheer number of Kang variants that could be in play, the MCU's Kang could certainly be more powerful than the Avengers.

How Might Kang Be Different By Avengers 5?

While he will make his official debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Kang is likely to be much different by the time The Kang Dynasty comes out. The version depicted in Ant-Man 3 is unlikely to be the same Kang variant seen in Avengers 5. While it is possible that the MCU could leave Quantumania on a cliffhanger, it is not probable. This means that the version of Kang that Scott, Hope, and the gang meet will in all likelihood be defeated by the movie's end, but with the shocking realization that there are many more versions of the antagonist out there.

Because there are Kang variants everywhere, just like in the comics, it is likely that there will be some version of the Council of Kangs. If this is true, then that means the variants are not just scattered among the multiverse, they are in communication with each other which means they can use the time between Ant-Man 3 and The Kang Dynasty to gain knowledge of how to take over the multiverse. Kang will be smarter and more powerful by the time he is seen in The Kang Dynasty which means that no matter how powerful this upcoming variant is, it will only get worse for the Avengers.

Intriguingly, thanks to Kang's complicated comic book history, there is even a theory that Phase 5 could showcase a good Kang variant. As the MCU enters the new era, new additions to the team (such as Shang-Chi and the Eternals) and the strengthening of characters (such as Dr. Strange) will be vital in helping to keep the evil Kangs at bay. Even though Kang the Conqueror is more powerful than the Avengers, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will undoubtedly find a way for the mighty heroes to protect the multiverse from his reign of terror. As such, there are many possibilities for how the character could change.
