Homeland season 6 set in New York, Quinn won't be the same
Big Homeland season 6 news: The new season of the Showtime espionage hit will be set in New York — which is a first.
”Homeland will be shot next year in New York City, in and around New York,” Showtime boss David Nevins told reporters at the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Pasadena on Tuesday. “It will be set domestically. It will be set primarily in the New York area, but not exclusively.”
Season 5 made history by being the first U.S. series to shoot an entire season in Berlin, Germany, while previous seasons have shot in Virginia, Cape Town, South Africa, and other locations.
“[After setting the show in] Afghanistan, Pakistan and Europe, [we] wanted to do another America story,” Nevins told us after the panel. “Also, I think the actors will be happy to be back in the U.S. For a year. I don’t think it’s necessarily going to stay there forever, but there was a strong interest in doing a domestic story from the creative team.”
Might the season’s new story have anything to do with Donald Trump, or Muslim immigration fears? “They don’t tend to [use] real people, but they tend to find themes that are real, so it’s possible,” Nevins said.
The network’s bosses also addressed the lingering question of — spoiler alert for those who have not seen the season 5 finale — whether Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) is dead. A critic asked why shows like Homeland and Game of Thrones have been cliff-hanging with characters who may or may not be alive.
“It’s a show that, more than those other shows, attempts to live in the real world,” Nevins said. “With Homeland, it’s not about playing games, it’s not a supernatural show, there will be no supernatural solution — if he should live.”
Added Showtime programming president Gary Levine: “Quinn is severely damaged. There is no question about it. The life-or-death question remains. But if he should live, it will not be in any way, shape or form the way he has lived to date.”
So that sounds like Quinn is likely back on the show, in some form, but there’s not going to be a quick recovery, at the very least. Homeland returns this fall
