Chicago Fire. Chicago P.D. Chicago Med. Law & Order: SVU. Cold Justice. In other words, über producer Dick Wolf is an extremely busy man.

Ahead of the launch of his second Chicago Fire spin-off, Chicago Med, the executive producer was pressed at the Television Critics Association’s semi-annual press tour on whether the ever-expanding Chicago universe would yield a fourth series. Alas, fans may be waiting a while before they get a true answer on that.
“There would never be a fourth unless this works,” Wolf said Thursday while promoting Med. “If this works, who knows what is possible in the future? The concern of everybody now is to make this show have the same impact Fire and P.D. have had.”
Nobody knows what the future holds, Wolf stressed, noting that’s also the case with the previously reported Law & Order reboot. Earlier this year, it was reported that NBC was mulling resurrecting Law & Order as a limited series. “As you heard, everybody wants to do it,” Wolf said. “It’s a question of most people involved are very successful in their careers. To try to get everything in sequence is much more difficult than it looks on the outside. I am always an optimist. I would love to do it. I think I can speak for the network, they would love to do it if we can make it work.”
For now, Chicago fans can look forward to multiple crossovers, including a four-way with Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., Chicago Med and Law & Order: SVU in February. “The crossovers are incredible ratings engines for us,” Wolf said. “What we can’t do is have them become common place. We basically have an agreement that we’re going to do three this season, but they won’t [always] include all the shows.”
Chicago Med is slated to premiere Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
