Here’s When You Can Watch David Fincher’s Mindhunter Series

Netflix has set an official premiere date for the David Fincher-produced drama Mindhunter. The critically acclaimed director of Fight Club, The Social Network, and Gone Girl has not been attached to a project since 2014, but he will make his long-awaited return to the industry as a director and executive producer on Mindhunter. We’ve already seen a trailer for the series, but the release date had yet to be confirmed.

Mindhunter will make all episodes of its first season available to the public on Friday, October 13. Besides the notable “Friday the 13th” release date, the series release serves as a nice appetizer to season 2 of the immensely popular Stranger Things, which drops two weeks later.

Based on the book Mind Hunter: Inside FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, the show is a 1970s crime thriller following two cops (Broadway star Jonathan Groff and Fincher favorite Holt McCallany) who interrogate convicted serial killers in order to solve cases that are ongoing. Anna Torv (Fringe), Cotter Smith (The Americans) and relative unknown Hannah Gross also star.

This is Netflix’s second partnership with Fincher, as he also serves as an executive producer on one of their ongoing major hits House of Cards. Along with Fincher, actress Charlize Theron serves as an executive producer on the series. The streaming service clearly has confidence in the breakout potential of the show, as it has already been picked up for a second season.

The series sounds like a project perfectly suited to the director of extraordinary crime dramas like Seven and Zodiac. It’s an attempt to serialize the story of Oscar-winner Silence of the Lambs, an intriguing concept especially when it’s helmed by a director that can control tone and grim atmosphere like Fincher. He is without a doubt among the best directors working today, and the trailer for the show doesn’t look out of place from his other work in feature films.

Fincher’s return to the film and television industry has been long-anticipated, and he’s got a few potential projects in the pipeline. The director was setting up projects at HBO, a half-hour music video documentary called Video Syncrazy and a remake of Utopia, but various issues have stalled those from getting off the ground. The director’s name has also been attached to the World War Z sequel.
