The 48-year-old actor, known for his role as the dimwitted-but-loveable Joey Tribbiani, is the first non-British host in the show’s 39-year history.

"As a car nut and a massive fan of Top Gear, I'm honoured and excited to be a part of this iconic show's new chapter," said LeBlanc told the BBC. "What a thrill!"

LeBlanc has appeared on Top Gear twice in the past, in the show’s ‘Star in a Reasonably Priced Car’ segment. He also holds the record for the fastest celebrity lap.

"Matt's a lifelong fellow petrolhead and I'm thrilled he's joining Top Gear," said fellow presenter, Chris Evans.

"Acting out our craziest car notions on screen is a dream job and I know we'll both be debating some epic road trip ideas. “"We can't wait to share what we've been up to on screen later this year."

Top Gear returns to TV this coming May.

The new line-up for Top Gear comes following former host Jeremy Clarkson’s dismissal last March. That said, the former trio of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May are set to release a Top Gear-style show on Amazon Prime at some point in 2016.
