How Shrinking Can Be The Next Great Comedy Series

Apple TV+ has a potential hit comedy series in Shrinking, judging from a few factors surrounding the streamer's new show. First off, Shrinking will be anchored by outstanding actors Ford and Segel. Ford is a household name after playing characters like Indiana Jones and Han Solo, and he will surely bring in viewers curious about one of his first high-profile TV roles. Although Segel might be a smaller name than Ford, the actor's accomplished resume in comedy would envy most actors. Segel played a major role in How I Met Your Mother, one of the most beloved sitcoms of all-time, and has starred in many successful comedy movies like Knocked Up and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. The Ford/Segel duo promises to be a very entertaining one to watch, and fans got a taste of what their dynamic will look like on the show in Shrinking's trailer.

The Shrinking team is impressive all around, with not only major stars attached, but also a pair of award-winning writers. Ted Lasso duo Lawrence and Goldstein's involvement with Shrinking should provide a major boost of interest for fans of the soccer show. Ted Lasso premiered in 2020 and quickly became a worldwide phenomenon. The Jason Sudeikis-led show presented an optimistic approach to life, with irreverent humor and a deep exploration of themes such as anxiety, family and companionship. Ted Lasso has garnered 40 Emmy nominations, taking home 11 awards. With that in mind, Shrinking might just be the next awards darling in the making.

Finally, with a talented cast attached to lead the show and an accomplished team of writers behind the scenes, all that's left in Shrinking's path to becoming a success is the story. Shrinking promises to bring an entertaining spin to therapy, with Segel's grieving therapist just telling his patients exactly what he thinks, and viewers being able to watch the characters spiral out of those revelations. The synopsis is enticing and should provide a great opportunity for Segel to display his comedic chops. Shrinking releases on Apple TV+ on January 27.
