Guillermo del Toro has announced that he's developing a film based on Alvin Schwartz's Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.

In a post on Twitter, del Toro confirmed his involvement in the upcoming adaptation, noting the source material is a childhood favorite.

In addition to producing, Deadline reports that del Toro may also direct the movie for CBS Films with a script by John August.

Scary Stories is a trilogy of short story collections that stirred up quite a bit of controversy when it was published back in 1984. In fact, the American Library Association widely banned Schwartz's series from placement because it was deemed too frightening for children.

In addition to Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and a new Trollhunters series for Netflix, Del Toro also has Pacific Rim 2 on his plate, having just recently confirmed the long-awaited sequel is alive and well.
