The first official Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer has officially been released, revealing the first look at James Gunn's Phase 5 Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. The upcoming sequel is set to be the end of the current iteration of the Guardians. James Gunn returns to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3 after his firing and rehiring by Disney. The movie brings back all the main cast members for one more movie, but it also introduces major new characters to the MCU with Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) and High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji).

Now, Marvel Studios has debuted the first Guardians of the Galaxy 3 trailer, which reveals the first official look at the MCU's Adam Warlock. The emotional footage debuted at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 and was once again played at CCXP 2022, which is why Marvel Studios decided to debut the trailer online at long last. It also comes on the heels of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special debuting on Disney+. Guardians of the Galaxy 3 releases in theaters on May 5, 2023. Check out the trailer below:

Everything Revealed In The Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Trailer

One of the biggest takeaways from the Guardians of the Galaxy 3 trailer is the long-awaited first look at Adam Warlock. James Gunn originally teased his introduction in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's post-credits scene, as Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) created Him to help take on the Guardians. While there are only two shots of Adam Warlock's design in Guardians of the Galaxy 3, the trailer does show the Poulter in the Adam Warlock suit. The character does include a gem of some kind embedded in his forehead, which is traditionally the Soul Stone in the comics, but that cannot be the case since the Infinity Stones were destroyed.

Some of the other key details in the Guardians of the Galaxy 3 trailer include teases of High Evolutionary as the film's villain. This includes shots of a baby Rocket before he is experimented on. Rocket is also shown hugging Lyla the Otter, who is his love interest in the comics, and was teased in the first movie. The other big moment for High Evolutionary comes right at the beginning of the Guardians of the Galaxy 3 trailer, as the Earth-like planet inhabited by animal/human hybrids the Guardians visit at the start is Counter-Earth.

The footage also is a clear reminder to viewers that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be an emotional ride as Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket, Drax, and Groot assemble for one more mission. James Gunn and others involved with the movie have repeatedly teased how emotional the film is, and the first video offers plenty of indications as to why that is the case. Whether it is the likelihood of seeing characters die or the knowledge that these heroes will never be on screen together again, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is likely to be one of the more emotional entries in the MCU.
