Marvel Studios appears to have another major motion picture blockbuster success on their hands as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 makes its way to the top of the box office for the second Friday in a row. After garnering a grand total of over $500 million in ticket sales during its first week in theaters, the latest franchise installment in the overarching Marvel Cinematic Universe is on track to exceed and surpass all expectations from die-hard fans and general moviegoers alike.

Seeing a welcome return from the likes of Chris Pratt as Peter “Star-Lord” Quill, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, and Vin Diesel as Baby Groot, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is another winning sci-fi romp from returning writer and director James Gunn. With a third film officially on the way, superfans of the latest Marvel Studios release may be thinking about going out to see the new movie again – or even for the first time – this weekend, and the latest box office numbers are definitely promising for Gunn and company.

According to THR, Marvel Studios is in great shape heading into the 2017 summer movie season as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 brings in another $16.4 million over the course of its second Friday at the box office, and is expected to be at the top of the pack this weekend with a projected total earnings of $60 million or more. Lagging behind Gunn are the Guy Ritchie directed King Arthur: Legend of the Sword – which earned $5.3 million on Friday with an expected weekend gross of $14.5 million on a $175 million budget – and the Amy Schumer comedy Snatched – which earned $5 million on Friday with an expected weekend gross of $16 million on a $42 million budget.

Fans of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will likely continue to stream in in droves to see the latest MCU feature, while Ritchie’s big budget medieval adventure is headed for a box office flop of epic proportions – especially considering it will likely be beaten by the surprise studio comedy contender Snatched. As everyone remains hooked on Gunn’s familiar feeling, the latest theatrical releases at the weekend box office are likely doomed to fall under the wayside of the latest Marvel Studios production.

Gunn and his most ardent supporters can raise another salute to the impressive success story that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is quickly turning into. Nevertheless, it’s unfortunate that King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and Snatched appear to have been beaten by such a large margin, but with any luck each will find their own respective audiences in due time.
