It's been over a year since Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was released in theaters, and it's still being talked frequently in comic book media circles. Whether you love it or hate the second entry in the DC Extended Universe, there's no denying that the movie laid a lot of the foundation for the franchise's immediate future. Following its theatrical run, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has been available on home media since late June of last year, and almost 12 months later, it's scored a spot on the list of top 50 all-time best-selling Blu-rays in the United States.

According to The Numbers, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice scored the #48 spot on the best-selling Blu-ray list, which accounts for all Blu-rays sales since 2009, when tracking for the home media format started. Since the June 28, 2016 Blu-ray release, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has sold over 2.3 million units and wracked up over $53 million in total consumer spending. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice beat out only The Hunger Games: Mockingjay --- Part 1 and Toy Story 3. For those interested, the top five entries on the list are Frozen, Avatar, Despicable Me 2, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Avengers.

While the overall critical reaction to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice wasn't what Warner Bros was hoping for, the movie's done quite well for itself financially. It earned more than $873 million in theaters worldwide, and throwing in the Blu-ray sales information, it's left a solid reputation for itself money-wise. It's worth mentioning that just like with the Digital HD version, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's Blu-ray release came with the theatrical cut and the Ultimate Edition, the latter of which added a half hour to the running time (making it three hours total) and was rated R for increased violence.

Taking place a year and a half after the events of Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice chronicled the conflict between the two eponymous heroes, with Henry Cavill's Superman not approving of the Caped Crusader's crimefighting methods and Ben Affleck's Batman believing that the Kryptonian posed a threat to humanity. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice also featured Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Jermey Irons as Alfred Pennyworth in major roles, and included cameos from Jason Momoa's Aquaman, Ezra Miller's Flash and Ray Fisher's Cyborg. Suicide Squad followed later that year and was also a financial success, although unlike Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it hasn't cracked the top 50 on that Blu-ray list.

The DC Extended Universe's next chapter unfolds on June 2 with Wonder Woman's release, and Justice League will follow on November 17.
