Chris Pratt knows what Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be about and is already hyping up the story. Initially viewed as a risky endeavor for Marvel Studios, the Guardians of the Galaxy hold some of the MCU’s most beloved characters. Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot make up the intergalactic team, and the group has headlined two films now. They just became part of an even bigger story with Avengers: Infinity War now out in theaters, and while they will next appear in Avengers 4, the end of their trilogy isn’t too far away.

Writer/director James Gunn is returning to close out the trilogy, and it is expected that most of the cast will be back too. The latest encounter with Thanos (and the future one in Avengers 4) could shake that up, but Gunn’s previously teased the film is the end of this version of the team. That is sure to include their leader Star-Lord, and Pratt is already excited for what is coming.

ET Canada spoke to Pratt as part of the Avengers: Infinity War press tour and asked him about the next installment. He confirmed that a script is complete while hyping the story that Gunn has come up with:

James [Gunn] has finished the script. I know the story. It’s going to be freaking amazing. This is very intentionally essentially the wrap up of a trilogy. So, the first film, the second film, and the third film each are standalone films, but there is an arc from the first to second to third that will wrap up through the course of this film. It’s imaginative, it’s big, bigger, better, faster, stronger, and funnier. It’s going to be great, I’m so excited.

The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise has been about family since the very beginning, and that theme could still be a big part of whatever comes next. Star-Lord’s already lost his mom, father, and daddy Yondu, but has since found a home with this ragtag group. Gamora has also dealt with issues with her adopted father Thanos and her adopted sister Nebula. Drax meanwhile has lost his wife and daughter, but struck up a nice relationship with Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Then there’s the sometimes brotherly relationship between Rocket and Groot. The ties to family is likely what Pratt is referring to as the franchise’s complete arc.

Specifics on the story for Vol. 3 aren’t as clear though. Gunn’s teased Adam Warlock in the past, but refuses to confirm he is actually in the third film. There’s also been hints to Quasar being part of Gunn’s plans, as well as hopes for Moondragon and additional earth-based heroes. Ayesha will also be back in some capacity too, so Guardians 3 could have a very large ensemble. While the focus is surely on wrapping up the original characters’ arcs, the film’s all but confirmed May 2020 release date as a true kickstarter for Phase 4 means it will help set up years of stories in the process. With Pratt so excited for Gunn’s vision, hopefully it won’t be too long before official details surface.
