The cast of Game of Thrones will have to wait longer than usual to find out what happens to their characters in the end.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime “Kingslayer” Lannister in the hit HBO series, said the actors were “not even going to get the scripts” before filming. The clampdown comes following a breach of HBO servers earlier this year with hackers getting access to gigabytes of data, including the show’s scripts and actors’ salaries. The Danish actor appeared on Norwegian-Swedish TV show Skavlan where he said: “…the hack happens and now we're not even going to get the scripts.” The actors would be fed lines through earpieces to prevent any leaks, he said.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones is one of the most pirated television shows of all time. The actor said all the cast members got hard copies of the scripts well in advance in the first couple of seasons. Then, the scripts went digital and were distributed as PDF files to tighten security. In recent seasons, actors got their parts through verified email. He said he didn’t expect his character to live beyond the first three seasons (because of the show’s penchant for killing off beloved characters).

There were also suggestions that HBO was filming multiple endings to the show to throw off hackers.
