Hero Blend #86: What We Expect From Captain America In Civil War
It’s entirely possible that this summer will see the release of the biggest Marvel Studios movie yet. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo’s Captain America: Civil War has one of the biggest ensembles the comic book movie company has put together yet, and the story promises a great deal of action as heroes who were once friends find themselves on opposite sides of an incredibly important issue. This is all big stuff… but the film also won’t be forgetting that it is first and foremost a Captain America movie and a Winter Soldier sequel. So what does that mean in terms of our expectations for the character?
As has been previewed in the footage we’ve seen from Captain America: Civil War, the key may ultimately be Bucky Barnes a.k.a. The Winter Soldier. Not only will Steve Rogers continue to mistrust government institutions after the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D. (explaining his unwillingness to sign the Sokovia Accords), but it has been heavily suggested that a significant aspect of the film’s plot involves those very same government institutions going after Bucky – who Steve must ultimately protect. Throw in the fact that The Winter Soldier wound up being responsible for the death of the parents of Tony Stark – Steve’s primary antagonist in the movie – and one can imagine that the superhero will be dealing with quite a lot in his third solo film.
Joining me for this Captain America-heavy discussion on Hero Blend is my good friend and Cinema Blend colleague Sean O’Connell, who has some interesting thoughts about not only about the journey of the titular character in Civil War, but also what should happen to him at the end of the story. Check it out!
