The second trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters is now online, following its debut at the 2018 Comic Con Experience (CCXP) in São Paulo, Brazil. It's been four years now since Godzilla came (literally) roaring back to life on the big screen in Gareth Edwards' 2014 reboot of the franchise. Shortly after the film hit theaters, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures announced plans to give King Kong a similar makeover in the form of Kong: Skull Island, an origin story for the Eighth Wonder of the World. Even back then, it was clear the studios' longterm plan was for Godzilla and Kong to eventually battle one another in a crossover movie.

Before that happens, however, Godzilla will take on King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan all at once in King of the Monsters. Edwards had originally intended to direct the followup, but was ultimately replaced by Michael Dougherty, whose previous work includes the cult horror film Trick 'r Treat and horror-comedy Krampus. It was Dougherty who confirmed the new King of the Monsters trailer would premiere at CCXP, shortly before releasing online the day after.

WB and Dougherty have now made good on their promise and released the new King of the Monsters trailer online for everyone to see. Much like the original King of the Monsters trailer that premiered at San Diego Comic-Con this year, the new promo opens with Millie Bobby Brown's character in trouble. The Stranger Things star is shown calling for help on a radio, in the face of - what else? - an imminent giant monster attack. For more, watch the trailer below, then check out the film's latest poster.

Brown stars in King of the Monsters as Madison Russell, a seemingly ordinary teenager whose mother - the paleobiologist Dr. Emma Russell (Vera Farmiga) - works for Monarch and helps the organization keep tabs on the god-like creatures or "Titans" that have long existed in secret. Of course, after the events of Edwards' movie, that cat is firmly out of the bag and the world at large knows that monsters are real and may (or may not) spell our doom. The new King of the Monsters trailer shows that humanity is understandably wary of these creatures and wants to know which ones are here to destroy us... and which ones are here to keep us safe from the others. They won't have to wait long for an answer either, if the huge monster brawl teased near the end of this promo is any indication.

The big question right now is whether King of the Monsters' story is smarter and more substantial than its trailers have (arguably) suggested, considering that the monster battles themselves look pretty astonishing. King of the Monsters will also have to juggle far more connections to the larger Godzilla/Kong universe (aka. the MonsterVerse) than its predecessors did, and could end up feeling like something of a chore to get through before Godzilla vs. Kong arrives in 2020. Then again, we already know certain humans in the Godzilla sequel are coming back for Godzilla vs. Kong, so there may be more to them and their plot threads than meets the eye. Either way, it definitely looks like Godzilla: King of the Monsters will deliver the goods when it comes to giant monster spectacle.
