Vicky Krieps is officially joining the cast of The Girl In The Spider’s Web – the next movie in the Millennium series that with David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo in 2011. The Girl In The Spider’s Web is a continuation of the Dragon Tattoo story, based on the book of the same name, but it isn’t a direct sequel to the first film.

Instead, it’s a reboot that skips over the events of the first three books to pick up with the fourth installment in the series. The Girl In The Spider’s Web was originally set for release this October, but was pushed back and now has a release date of November 9th.

Since it was announced that Claire Foy would be starring as Lisbeth Salander back in September of last year, various casting announcements have trickled in as the project has been in principal photography. Most recently, Get Out‘s Lakeith Stanfield and comedian Stephen Merchant joined the film in supporting roles. And now, Vicky Krieps has joined The Girl In The Spider’s Web in an unknown role.

Variety reports that the breakout star of 2017’s Phantom Thread is joining The Girl In The Spider’s Web, which is currently filming in Berlin and Stockholm. Krieps’ role is currently unknown, although the major parts in the film are already filled, so she’ll most likely be appearing in a small role.

Krieps will be joining Claire Foy as Lisbeth Salander, Sverrir Gudnason as journalist Michael Blomkvist, and Sylvia Hoeks as Camilla Salander (Lisbeth’s evil sister). The Girl In The Spider’s Web is being directed by Fede Alvarez, who is expected to do great things with the material.

With only a few major roles confirmed for The Girl In The Spider’s Web, it’s difficult to speculate who Krieps will be playing in the film; although several possibilities do stand out, including Blomkvist’s editor and occasional lover Erika Berger, Blomkvist’s sister Annika Giannini, Harriet Vanger (a character from a previous storyline and investor in Millennium magazine), one of the various police officers, an agent who appears in the book, or possibly even the mother to central character August (a young boy with autism). Because The Girl In The Spider’s Web is a reboot, it’s possible that Krieps could be playing anyone, even a character who already appeared in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Of course, it is also possible that Krieps could be an entirely new character created specifically for the film. As of yet, it’s unknown how much of the film will be a direct adaption from the book by David Lagercrantz (who took over the series after the death of Stieg Larsson), and how much will be written specifically for the big screen.
