Mad Max director George Miller has talked more about what he could do with a Furiosa movie following the success of Fury Road.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Miller said that Fury Road only alluded to her past, so another movie could explore it in more detail. But, he also pointed out that fans seem to be catching a lot of the subtext already.

"She's a pretty compelling character so it'd be great to tell her story," he said. "Her backstory is pretty interesting, we only allude to it in this movie. This movie is on the run, people don't have much time for recreational talk. You have a sense of her having gone through stuff, that's what the movie is trying to do. You know, you're trying to put a lot of iceberg under the tip, I like saying.

"One of the things that's really gratifying, people are reading the film on more than the surface, the events of the movie, and are just picking up a lot of stuff. Which is very deliberate, you work hard to get all that in there so it's not just empty calorie action. You're getting stuff out of it, you're learning about characters and their relationships and the world and so on. So in many ways the audience is picking up a lot about Furiosa, or enough to intrigue, and she's got an interesting story."

That said, he's not planning to rush right back into the world of Mad Max, saying he'd like to work on a less intense project first as a rest.

"Something smaller before we go back out into the wasteland, that's contemporary and that we can get through fairly quickly. Something without too much technical difficulty, just something more performance-based, just to sort of clear the exhaust."
