Season 5 of Game of Thrones is little more than a month away from premiering on HBO, so the network has ramped up its promotion of the highly-rated fantasy drama series. An official season 5 trailer debuted in IMAX theaters at the end of January and was then released online. HBO also released a gallery of images from the upcoming season that feature new and returning characters alike.

As for the characters, Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) discussed her character’s relationship with Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish (Aidan Gillen) in season 5, and Isaac Hempstead-Wright confirmed Bran Stark will not appear. Additionally, author of the novels on which Game of Thrones is based, George R. R. Martin, revealed that unexpected characters will die in the upcoming season. Now, new clips and artwork from season 5 give viewers insight to certain characters’ stories in the upcoming season.


The events of these clips seem to follow closely after the end of season 4, which saw Brienne fight The Hound (Rory McCann) and Jon capture Mance. Additionally, the new poster references Tyrion escaping King’s Landing in the season 4 finale and fleeing across the Narrow Sea to the Free Cities – which brings him closer to Daenerys and her dragons.

Unlike the poster, which merely teases the possible trajectory of Tyrion’s storyline in the upcoming season, the clips reveal partial scenes from season 5, presumably the first episode. The clips don’t offer much in the way of actual insight into what Brienne or Jon will face in the next season. However, they do remind viewers of where the characters were left at the end of season 4 and tease some of what to expect once season 5 premieres in April.
