People really like winter.

The people have spoken and it’s official; Game of Thrones (all six seasons available on TMN GO) is the best TV show of the past 20 years. George RR Martin’s seven kingdoms, with all their battles, incest, sex scenes, murders, White Walkers, dragons, and the occasional humorous moment have earned it the best rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Well done, HBO. You’re worth the extra money we spend each month.

In their fall 2017 survey, Rotten Tomatoes asked their readers “What do you think is the best TV show of the past 20 years,” with 11 per cent of the vote going to GoT. The HBO series was also voted the number one show when fans were asked “What is your favorite TV show that is currently on TV or streaming?” as well.

Of course, number ranking is likely no surprise to anyone who is a fan of Game of Thrones, a series that is an ongoing favourite among viewers and critics alike. The show has earned 110 Primetime Emmy Awards nominations over its six seasons, taking home 38 awards so far (the seventh season, which ended in August, was not eligible for the 2017 Emmy awards).

GoT holds the record for the most Primetime Emmy Awards in a single year, taking home 12 awards in 2015. The series also holds the Guinness World Record for the most pirated TV show, and largest TV drama simulcast; we’re pretty sure HBO is only happy about one of those.

While most series tend to lose viewers around the third season, GoT has continually gained traction with each passing year. For its most recent season premiere in June, GoT earned the title of HBO’s most watched season premiere of all time, raking in 10.1 million viewers in one night.

As for the rest of the list, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul’s Emmy-winning Breaking Bad came in at the number two spot with seven per cent of the vote. Both Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad have a 95 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Yeah Mr. White! Yeah science!

The Big Bang Theory, which is currently airing its 11th season, Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET on CTV, came in at the number three spot with five per cent of the vote. Friends clinched the number four spot, beating out Seinfeld, which earned the number five spot and four per cent of the votes.

Game of Thrones, Law and Order, Doctor Who and The Big Bang Theory were the only shows in the top 10 that are still currently on air. Law and Order: SVU, part of one of the longest running series franchises in TV history, is set to premiere its 19th season on Wednesday, September 27 at 9 p.m. ET on CTV.

Star Trek: Discovery, airing Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on Space, came in at the number one spot for the questions “Which new fall TV series are you most looking forward to?” and “Which remake of a classic show are you most excited about?”
