Game of Thrones: Emilia Clarke Dyes Her Hair for Season 8

Game of Throne‘s Emilia Clarke had dyed her hair silver-blonde to match her character for the final season of the show. The series may be off the air for a year (or longer!), but in the run up to the final season, fans are thrilled for any news about what’s to come on Game of Thrones. With production on the eigth season starting very soon, there have already been casting calls for new characters, and even plans announced to film multiple endings – to prevent any accidental leaks giving anything away.

The stars of the show are also gearing up for a final run as their Westerosi counterparts, and fans wonder how some of the biggest names will look when their appearance is no longer dictated by the series. Now Emilia Clarke has revealed a hair transformation ahead of filming, as she becomes just a little bit more recognizable as Daenerys Targaryen.

Clarke posted the photo of herself with freshly bleached (and still-wet) hair, smiling and wearing a salon cape, to her official Instagram account (see the image below). The photo is captioned “AAAAHHHHHHH SHHHHIIIII****** I done did it. Mother of dragons meet Emilia. Emilia meet mother of dragons. If you squint just so you might never know. All hail to the magnificence of @kevalexanderhair and @candicebanks74 the genius creators of ‘KHALEESI WIG’ (and not forgetting all the hair on game of thrones for 8 glorious years) for at long last making this magical moment a reality. #khaleesikicksoff #gameofthrones#cominghomeneverfeltsogood”.

    (coudnt attatch the image sorry)

In previous years, Clarke has acheived Daenerys’ trademark silver hair with the help of some beautiful and complex wigs (and she gives credit to the wigmakers in her post), and it’s likely that those wigs will still be featuring in the upcoming season. However, she has also spoken in multiple interviews about not being recognizable without the wigs, as fans have failed to realize who she is even when she is with other cast members!

It’s not too surprising, then, that Clarke has decided to embrace her Mother of Dragons alter ego for the final season by dying her own hair from its natural dark brown to a platinum blonde. However, fans may also see her new ‘do in the show – although it is significantly shorter than the character’s current style, others in the show have lost significant portions of thier own hair for various reasons. Cersei had her long blonde hair lopped off for her walk of shame, and Arya cut hers to look more like a boy while in hiding, for example.

It may finally be time to see Clarke’s natural hair make an appearance – and perhaps it could even signal that Daenerys is going to be unburnt one more time… and actually lose most of her hair in the process, which happens in the books (although has yet to happen on screen). We’ll have to wait and see how it looks when styled, but luckily fans won’t have to wait all the way till the show begins to get a good look at Clarke’s new do.

Game of Thrones season 8 begins production soon, with a late 2018 or early 2019 premiere target.
