One of Game of Thrones ‘ most acclaimed directors looks to be returning for the final season of the show. After seven seasons of twists, turns, dragons, and zombies, the final six episodes of Game of Thrones are on the horizon. Before the year’s end, cameras will begin rolling, with HBO shooting multiple endings to ensure what’s bound to be an epic climax isn’t ruined ahead of time. Still, little is known about the upcoming eighth season and when it will air.

Despite the lack of information regarding the final season of Game of Thrones, season 7 offered plenty of clues. We know Jon’s heritage will be explored and the White Walkers will continue south with their powerful army . Meanwhile, Cersei will be gaining the support of the Golden Company and dogging our heroes’ heels every step of the way. Behind the scenes, the show will likely bring back some of the key writers and directors from over the years as the story wraps up. Now, we know some of the prominent names that look to be returning.

Fabian Wagner (via Screen Crush) posted a photo on Instagram of him with the rest of the team behind ‘Battle of the Bastards’. While the image is a throwback, Wagner’s caption indicates he and the rest of the people featured in the image will be returning for Game of Thrones season 8.

Wagner is a frequent director of photography on the show, having worked on episodes like ‘Hardhome’ and ‘ Battle of the Bastards’. Along with the DP in the photo is Miguel Sapochnik, the director of both episodes. With one focusing on Jon Snow battling White Walkers and the other showing him take on the Boltons, the two episodes featured some of the most epic action on the show yet. Given that, it’s exciting news that the director and cinematographer may be working together again for the final season.

The image also features VFX supervisor Joe Bauer, VFX producer Steve Kullback, and Sapochnik’s assistant Caroline Alderson. Considering the work they’ve all previously done on the series, it’s hardly surprising they’re coming back to Game of Thrones alongside Wagner and Sapochnik. And while the team sat out last season, it’s a safe bet they’ll be handling one of the last few episodes of the show. Wagner and Sapochnik have proven they make a great duo behind the camera, so it’s a good sign that season 8 of Game of Thrones will make sure they get to work together one last time.
