The Orphanage filmmaker J.A. Bayona will direct Jurassic World 2.

The sequel's producer, Frank Marshall, revealed the Spanish filmmaker's involvement on Twitter (as spotted by Variety). "Thrilled to announce J.A. Bayona is on board to direct [Jurassic World] 2," he said. "Welcome to the team."

Bayona broke out with The Orphanage and is currently working on A Monster Calls, which stars Liam Neeson, Felicity Jones and Sigourney Weaver. It was rumored last year that the Jurassic World 2 team had tried to poach him, as the filmmaker was originally attached to helm the World War Z sequel.

Jurassic World 2 will see the return of Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow is writing the script with Derek Connolly, who also worked on the first film. Trevorrow will be busy with Star Wars: Episode IX, which he's helming, and unable to return to the director's seat for JW2.

The sequel could see the return of classic Jurassic Park characters. And Trevorrow has noted that Jurassic World 2 is inspired by an Alan Grant quote.

Jurassic World 2 is set to hit theaters June 22, 2018.
