Fox’s Gambit will be heading to New Orleans to start filming in March. Despite repeated delays, the film is at last headed into production in the Big Easy and has been slowly collecting production staff and casting its leads.

News about just what Gambit will entail remains to be seen but the film is rumored to tease some major X-Universe connections. Starring Channing Tatum as the charismatic mutant, the film has recruited a wealth of talent for the camera including Lizzy Caplan as well as a wealth of talent behind the camera including director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) and Max Max: Fury Road costume designer Jenny Beavan . Rumors about just who will be appearing in the film continue to swirl including Mr. Sinister, the telepathic villain Chandra , and Bandit, Gambit’s romantic rival in the comics.

According to Omega Underground , they’ll all be heading to New Orleans beginning March 19th, 2018. Presumably, the film will be shooting at Big Easy Studios where Fox previously shot Logan. With Gambit, the studio has another potential mutant franchise to join the very successful Deadpool with another wise-cracking, brutally hilarious mutant for audiences to appreciate. Fox is clearly rolling the dice in favor of the Ragin’ Cajun, supposedly backing up Gambit’s rumored start date witha budget of $155 million .

While character breakdowns have hit the web, there’s no current confirmation on just what Gambit will be about beyond it being a “crime/heist” thriller . More information is certain to become available as filming commences and with an amazing team in front of and behind the camera, Fox is banking on another hit to recover from X-Men: Origins – the first appearance of the fan-favorite mutant on camera.

The film has faced multiple woes from a turn in development hell to many major production delays and a rotating set of directors behind the camera. Fox’s commitment to telling the Cajun’s story obviously can’t be understated . With the Disney and Fox deal official but slated to solidify by 2020, Gambit’s story shouldn’t be affected by any influence from Disney. With a production that’s faced this many troubles, however, there’s always a chance that Disney might want to protect its investment in Gambit and make sure such a troubled production is on track.

So far, however, there aren’t any troubles and the talent behind the camera, particularly Verbinski, is top notch and has created excellent adaptations. Verbinski has worked with both Fox and Disney before and has produced favorable results for Disney. Gambit’s being kept tightly under wraps and a great many people will be watching just what the long-awaited adaptation will bring to the screen. Thankfully fans won’t have to wait long.
