The Flash season 6 has officially cast Sendhil Ramamurthy to play the villain Bloodwork. Following his very first crossover with Stephen Amell's Oliver Queen on Arrow, Grant Gustin's Barry Allen got his own Arrowverse series in 2014. Titled The Flash, the series has pitted Barry and the rest of Team Flash against a different big bad every season so far, in addition to the various crime breaking meta-humans that the superheroes and his loves ones frequently do battle with on a weekly basis.

As a result, The Flash has already brought several of the fastest man alive's most infamous opponents (Reverse-Flash, The Thinker, Gorilla Grodd, King Shark) to life in the Arrowverse over the course of its previous five seasons. Of course, The Flash's rogues' gallery runs deep and there are even more threats to come in season 6, including a big one that was teased throughout season 5 (more on that later). First, though, Barry and his pals are going to have to take on yet another tragic scientist-turned monster.Following The Flash's panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 today, The CW has announced that Ramamurthy will play the recurring role of Dr. Ramsey Rosso, a character who transforms into the villain Bloodwork.

Ramamurthy's larger body of work already includes projects that range from Covert Affairs and the 2010s' Beauty and the Beast TV series to to the animated LEGO mini-series Jurassic World: The Indominus Escape. However, he's still (arguably) best known for playing research geneticist Mohinder Suresh on Heroes and its mini-series revival, Heroes Reborn. The CW describes The Flash's version of Dr. Rosso as being "a brilliant physician with a genius intellect, and the world’s leading expert on hematological oncology" who also happens to be a former colleague of Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker). Like a number of Flash rogues, Rosso will start out as a decent person and rekindle his friendship with Caitlin when they are reunited by an "unexpected event".

But of course, the doctor's desire to "defy the laws of nature" takes him down a dark road and eventually transforms him into the horrifying Bloodwork, who will thereafter serve as the primary villain in season 6... for the first half, anyway. One of the more common criticisms of The Flash season 5 was that its main overarching villain, Cicada (Cicada I & II, that is) simply wasn't strong enough to carry an entire season on their back, so hopefully that won't be a problem with Bloodwork. Again, though, as mentioned earlier, Barry will have an even bigger issue to deal with this season than just another scientist who turns into a dangerous meta-human. As a direct result of the events of season 5, the Crisis on Infinite Earths has moved up five years to 2019, and a good chunk of season 6 (especially, the latter half) will focus on exploring the fallout of that game-changing event.

The Flash season 6 premieres Tuesday, October 8 on The CW.
