Thanks to a new episode synopsis, the debut of Elongated Man and Breacher is right around the corner on The Flash. This week, The Flash returned to kick off its fourth season with a new status quo and a promised lighter tone. While the latter was lost in the haze of Barry’s messy return from the Speed Force, the preview for next week’s episode proves it will feature plenty of laughs and hijinks.

Along with a return to the fun of season 1, The Flash will be greatly expanded its ensemble this season. We saw a tease for The Thinker and The Mechanic last episode, and the upcoming batch will bring characters like Elongated Man and Hazard over from the comics while introducing new characters like Breacher. Now, we know when some of those character will show up.

The CW released the synopsis for episode 4 of The Flash‘s fourth season, ‘Elongated Journey into Night,’ which will premiere on October 31. As the play on A Long Days Journey into Night alludes, it will finally introduce the Elongated Man into the Arrowverse.

Cisco (Carlos Valdes) is shocked when Gypsy’s (guest star Jessica Camacho) father, Breacher (guest star Danny Trejo), shows up on Earth-1. Breacher takes an immediate disliking to Cisco and decides to hunt him. Meanwhile, Barry (Grant Gustin) runs into his old nemesis, Ralph Dibny (guest star Hartley Sawyer).
Judging from the title, it seems likely that Ralph Dibny will already have his powers when we meet him. It also looks as if some changes will be made to his backstory, pitting him and Barry against one another as former rivals. In the comics, Elongated Man was first introduced in 1960’s The Flash #112 as a villain, only to be later redeemed as a hero. To honor that, the Dibny of the Arrowverse will start out butting heads with Barry before they inevitably join forces.

It will also be interesting to see whether any attempt is made to reconcile the living Dibny with the Easter egg from season 1 of The Flash where the character was listed as dead from the Particle Accelerator explosion. Of course, he could have been presumed dead before later awakening with his newfound powers.

The episode will also be directed by Tom Cavanagh (the many Harrison Wellses of the show) and feature the return of Gypsy and the debut of her father Breacher (Danny Trejo). And like Dibny and Barry, Breacher and Cisco won’t get along at first. Hopefully, all of these new characters and dynamics will help to reinvigorate The Flash.
