The Flash TV show will introduce the Green Arrow comics villain Hyrax something following its return from the winter break. The Flash returns to The CW next week, after a midseason break that ended on a cliffhanger: Barry Allen’s (Grant Gustin) arrest! The speedster’s civilian alter-ego was framed for murder in the midseason finale, as part of a long game played by the big bad of season four, The Thinker (Neil Sandilands).

The Flash’s eventual showdown with The Thinker has been building since the start of the season, with Clifford DeVoe first creating new metahumans for The Flash to go up against, and then taunting him, pushing him to behave unprofessionally, and even threateningly. All of this, of course, is to make the murder charge all the more plausible… even if Team Flash knows that Barry didn’t do it. However, when The Flash returns, the second half of the season won’t just be about Flash vs Thinker. There will still be plenty of freak-of-the-week villains to battle, including one that may be a familiar name to Green Arrow fans.

Hyrax, aka Veronica Dale, will be appearing at some point in the second half of season four, That Hashtag Show reveals. The character breakdown describes her as a domestic terrorists with an evil plan that Team Flash will presumably have to thwart:

VERONICA DALE Mid 20s-30s. Female, an Environmental Activist (back when she was still sane) turned Animal Liberator turned Domestic Terrorist, who’s the leader of the Eden Corps — a cult-like organization that proposes to turn back the clock to a pre-industrial age — and if millions of innocent people have to die in the process, well, that’s just tough

In the comics, Hyrax is a villain to Green Arrow, and sounds essentially identical to the description of the upcoming character in The Flash. However, Green Arrow fans may also know that although Hyrax isn’t a recurring villain, or even a particularly powerful one, she had a huge impact on the comics: Hyrax is responsible for the death of Green Arrow himself! In the ’90s, Green Arrow attempted to stop Hyrax from detonating a bomb above Metropolis, and in the process, got his arm stuck in the bomb. Although Superman tried to convince him to sacrifice his arm to save himself, Oliver had no intention of living without the ability to draw a bow, and chose to blow himself up to save the city.

Obviously, this is a fairly massive event, which is sure to spark speculation over whether or not the Hyrax of the Arrowverse will have a similarly devastating plan for one of the big cities (although not Metropolis, as Supes doesn’t exist on Earth 1, as far as we know). While it is common practise for the Arrowverse to borrow minor villains from the comics to use as their freak-of-the-week bad guys, Hyrax seems like a fairly major character to include – especially in a different Arrowverse show. This could simply be a straightforward take-down for The Flash… or could this be a way to introduce the character with an eventual plan to kill off Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) himself?
