The final trailer for Deadpool 2 has been released, further teasing what to expect from The Merc With a Mouth’s sequel. Ryan Reynolds made his screen debut as Wade Wilson in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine and spent the years after relentlessly campaigning for the character to get his own solo film. Seven years and some leaked test footage later, Deadpool finally happened and became a massive critical/financial success for Fox, thanks in no small amount to both Reynolds’ performance and his unique approach to building hype for the R-rated superhero action-comedy.
Deadpool 2, like Deadpool before it, has taken far from what one might call a typical marketing approach for a studio tentpole nowadays. The Deadpool 2 teaser trailer was mostly footage of Deadpool doing a Bob Ross impersonation, whereas a good chunk of the first Deadpool 2 trailer was footage of Wade Wilson playing with Deadpool and Cable (Josh Brolin) action figures. It wasn’t until the third trailer that Fox confirmed that Deadpool 2 will introduce the X-Force to the big screen, ahead of Drew Goddard’s X-Force movie starting production in the second half of this year.
Fox has now unveiled another Deadpool 2 trailer, just in time for it to begin screening with Avengers: Infinity War in theaters next week. This preview, like the most recent trailer before it, lays out the basic plot beats for the film; namely, that Deadpool wants to stop time-traveling mutant Cable from killing a mysterious kid (Julian Dennison), whom Cable wants dead for equally mysterious reasons. In order to do so, Wade puts together his own “super-duper f***ing group” that includes Domino (Zazie Beetz), Bedlam (Terry Crews), Shatterstar (Lewis Tan), and most importantly of all… Peter.
