Assassin’s Creed is coming to Netflix, and here's what to know about the TV show, including when it might release and what its story could be. Ubisoft’s popular video game franchise is based around the concept of scientists in the modern era using a machine to get people to relive the memories of their ancestors. Using this method, the series is able to explore the history of a shadow organization called the Brotherhood of Assassins, who have operated in secret for hundreds of years against their oldest enemies, the Templars.

Typically, each game in the series takes players to a different time period, meaning that the protagonist is usually an all-new character with each installment. So far, the series has visited Victorian England, the Renaissance, ancient Egypt, the French Revolution, and several other periods in human history.

The world of Assassin’s Creed was previously brought to life on the big screen in 2016 with Michael Fassbender playing the main character. Unfortunately, it was not a box office success and planned sequels to Assassin's Creed were unsurprisingly cancelled. However, fans of the video game series will soon get a chance to see these concepts revisited on TV.

Assassin's Creed Is Coming To Netflix

Netflix, who previously made TV adaptations of other video game franchises, like The Witcher and Castlevania, is now trying its hand at Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed. It’s been announced that Ubisoft is partnering with Netflix to create new content centered on Assassin’s Creed, with their first project being a live-action television series.

Assassin's Creed Release Date

It’s of course too soon to expect a release date, but as long as Netflix makes its Assassin’s Creed show a priority and development progresses smoothly, it’s possible that it could be released sometime in late 2021, but 2022 feels much more likely.

Assassin's Creed Story Details

There’s no word yet on what the story will offer, or which time period will be chosen as the setting, though its sure to somehow involve a battle between the Brotherhood of the Assassins and the scheming Templars. The Netflix series could do as the movie did and create an original story based in the Assassin’s Creed world, or it could focus on an established Assassin’s Creed protagonist, such as Ezio Auditore da Firenze, Altair, or Edward Kenway.

Assassin’s Creed Cast

Details about who will play the main characters in Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed are news that viewers can look forward to in the coming months. One possibility about the show’s plans for the cast is that it could change drastically for each season, though whether or not that’s actually the case remains to be seen for now. It could follow the formula of the games and have each season be set in a different time period with different characters.
