Terminator: Dark Fate brings back Arnold Schwarzenegger, but it also introduces several new robots/cyborgs into the franchise. After the release of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, the Terminator series went on hiatus until it was ultimately revived in the late 2000s with Terminator Salvation and then again a few years later with Terminator: Genisys. While both of those movies failed to spawn their own trilogies, Paramount is banking on James Cameron's return to help bolster things this time around.

And so, Terminator: Dark Fate, originally referred to as Terminator 6, is taking the Halloween route and disregarding everything that came before it and is, instead, continuing the story that left off with Terminator 2: Judgment Day - the last installment to be helmed by Cameron himself. Directed by Deadpool's Tim Miller and produced by Cameron (with a story partially developed by Cameron as well), Terminator: Dark Fate aims to finally launch a new Terminator movie trilogy.

Part of the story in Terminator: Dark Fate not only means bringing back iconic characters like Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) and the T-800 (Schwarzenegger) but also giving those characters new robots to engage with. And based on what's been revealed thus far, two of those new robots/cyborgs will be played by Gabriel Luna (who's known for playing Ghost Rider on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Mackenzie Davis (Blade Runner 2049, Halt and Catch Fire). Here's everything we know about the robots in Terminator: Dark Fate.

GABRIEL LUNA'S T-1000

Terminator fans are more than familiar with the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and while another version appeared in Terminator: Genisys, it seems that the model will be returning in Terminator: Dark Fate. Based on footage from CinemaCon 2019, Luna's new Terminator was, in fact, the T-1000. While the T-1000 is back in the new film, Luna's version is supposed to be an upgraded version compared to Robert Patrick's model from the 1991 sequel. It can split into two different forms - its traditional liquid form as well as an endoskeleton - which may make it a rival to the T-X model from Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. The director believes Luna's version is much deadlier than the Terminators we've seen before, but its exact powerset remains to be seen.

ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER'S MODEL 101 & T-800

One of the story elements of Terminator: Dark Fate is the origin of the T-800. In addition to returning as the T-800, which was last seen in 2015's Terminator: Genisys, Schwarzenegger is also supposed to be playing the human model for the original Model 101 that became the T-800. Furthermore, Brett Azar, who stood in as the body double for Schwarzenegger's young T-800 in Genisys (with Schwarzenegger's facial likeness from 1991 being applied using CGI), is returning for Dark Fate, which means there might be two versions of the T-800 - the original and an older one - that appear in the upcoming sequel. Interestingly, the older T-800 will still show Schwarzenegger's age. This was a plot point in Genisys, which revealed that the exterior tissue is can age just like a human's flesh would age, and Miller is retaining at least that one aspect in his sequel.

MACKENZIE DAVIS' NEW CYBORG

Mackenzie Davis plays a character named Grace, a "soldier-assassin" who time travels to the past to protect Natalia Reyes' Dani Ramos from Luna's T-1000. But various production developments (as well as markings on her body) have hinted at Grace being a cyborg. She's not a villain in this movie, so she could be the Resistance's own Terminator hero, one that's stronger and more capable than Schwarzenegger's T-800. This is an element that derives from Terminator Salvation, in which Sam Worthington played Marcus Wright, a criminal on death row who eventually became a machine/human hybrid, and then partially in Terminator: Genisys in which John Connor became a T-3000. Given the types of scars on Grace's body, it's certainly possible that her body was repurposed into being a machine. After all, Davis previously described her character as being an "enhanced" human being (via ComicBook). Perhaps, at some point in the future, the Resistance figured out how to improve themselves in order to better combat the machines.

ANOTHER TERMINATOR

Viewers are used to seeing Terminators resemble human beings since they are meant to infiltrate either society in the past or the Resistance in the future. But there are, of course, Terminator endoskeletons that the Resistance fights, and it appears that one of them appears in Terminator: Dark Fate. Based on CinemaCon footage descriptions, Sarah Connor fights Luna's T-1000 as well as an unidentified Terminator skeleton. It's possible that the skeleton is another T-800 (just without all the flesh) or second-half of Luna's Terminator splitting into two.
