Game of Thrones‘ Jon Snow might know nothing, but apparently his acting alter-ego, Kit Harington, knows “everything” about season 8. Speaking on a live UK chat show, Harington was promoting his new historical thriller Gunpowder, as well as discussing the filming for season 8 of Game of Thrones. During the conversation he seemingly contradicted a previous bit of information from a fellow GoT actor, and stated that he’s now aware of the twists and secrets of the HBO show’s final season, which means that he has much to keep silent about until possibly 2019.

Following on from the events of the wall-smashing finale of season 7, viewers and fans were keen to guess what directions season 8 would take. Who was dead, who might die, and more importantly who will finally end up on the Iron Throne. This has led to detective work by some people analyzing photos of cast members arriving in Belfast for filming, to see if potentially thought-dead characters are still being played by their respective actors. It’s also led to extreme measures being taken by the showrunners and HBO to ensure that the plot is not leaked online. Earlier this month Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) claimed that the cast would not be getting full scripts for season 8, and instead would have to rely on earpieces for crucial scenes. There were also rumors of multiple endings being filmed, but this was ridiculed by Coster-Waldau.

However, when Harrington was recently interviewed on the BBC’s The One Show (via Digital Spy), he actually stated that at least some of the cast was privy to the upcoming events in season 8;

“I’m really emotional about [the end]… We had the read-through last week, in fact, so I know everything now.”

That seems to go against Coster-Waldau’s previous comments about the lack of scripts, so it seems that GoT actors will have to be pretty careful with their interviews and discussions from now on. Harington did confirm that there were still extreme levels of secrecy in place though, and that the discussion of filming dates and the use of on-set photos were “on lockdown.“ Unfortunately the BBC interviewer then inadvertently mentioned that Harington was due to start filming his first scenes on the forthcoming Monday (Oct 23)! The actor did show his softer side as well, declaring he got pretty emotional at the end of the read-through, even going as far as crying with the cast:

“I cried at the end!… You have to remember, I’ve done eight years of it… I get a bit weepy thinking about it. It’s going to be to a strange year. Saying goodbye to everyone, having your last scene with this person or having your last scene with that person. Not only you’re attached to it, loads of people around the world are attached to it.”

With season 8 already confirmed as the most expensive, and the cast describing it as monumental, to say it is hotly anticipated by fans is an understatement. Hopefully the biggest secrets that the actors may – or may not – now share, will stay hidden from the media until the HBO show premieres again. At least the series will go out with a bang, and we always have the Game of Thrones spinoffs to look forward to.
