Avengers: Infinity War actress Elizabeth Olsen has no interest in doing a solo movie for her character Scarlet Witch. In the comic books, Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch is the mutant daughter of Magneto. When the character entered the MCU in Avengers: Age of Ultron, however, her backstory was altered to remove the mutant connection. After initially siding with Ultron, Scarlet Witch ended up joining the Avengers and even formed a special bond with the Vision (Paul Bettany).

The relationship between Vision and Scarlet Witch was further developed in Captain America: Civil War, and is set to take another big leap in Infinity War. But with the success of Wonder Woman and the impending release of Captain Marvel, the question about more female-led superhero films keeps coming up. At the moment, fans are clamoring for a Black Widow solo film that’s in development, but Marvel has yet to fully commit to the film. But while that project continues to gestate, there are still several other female superheroes worthy of their own movies, such as Scarlet Witch – but that doesn’t appear to be something that either Olsen or Marvel are interested in right now.

In an interview with Everything Iconic with Danny Pellegrino, Elizabeth Olsen talked about Scarlet Witch potentially getting her own movie. While she isn’t very keen on the idea of a solo movie, Olsen did mention that she’s jokingly discussed headlining a Netflix sitcom TV series with Paul Bettany’s Vision:

“We are at ground zero. …It’s definitely not something I’m pushing, and I don’t know if it’s something that [Marvel is] going to push either. Paul Bettany and I joked about having a domestic television show on Netflix or something, and it would just be like a house event where Scarlet Witch goes bananas. That’s what we joke about, but I don’t think any of those things are happening. But I’m happy that I’m still around and they still use me well – and that’s fine.”

A Scarlet Witch movie exploring her original X-Men origins could possibly prove interesting, especially given the potential for a Michael Fassbender appearance as her father Magneto. But after the alterations made to the character’s backstory, serious retconning would have to happen for that to even make sense in the MCU. Indeed, Olsen also recently addressed the Scarlet Witch backstory issue and said she doesn’t believe audiences ever see the character taken back to her X-Men roots – even after Disney’s yet-to-be-completed acquisition of Fox.

At the end of the day, how much interest would there really be from fans in a Scarlet Witch solo movie? It seems most Marvel fans would prefer Black Widow to get a solo movie first before Scarlet Witch does. When it comes to mining the already existing MCU movies for potential female-centered solo projects, the pickings look mighty thin. Captain Marvel, of course, was a natural idea and something that has been in the works for a long time. Perhaps instead of a solo movie, the MCU’s female heroes could lead their own A-Force team-up movie. In the meantime, though, Scarlet Witch fans will get to see her next in this month’s Avengers: Infinity War.
