The Oscar-winning British star is headed to a possible collaboration with Sorkin after the latter made his directorial debut with 'Molly's Game.'

Eddie Redmayne is early talks to star in The Trial of the Chicago 7 by writer and director Aaron Sorkin.

The film is based on the infamous 1969 trial of seven defendants charged by the federal government with conspiracy and more, arising from the countercultural protests in Chicago at the 1968 Democratic National Convention.

The Oscar-winning Redmayne is in line to play Tom Hayden, the co-founder of the Students for a Democratic Society. The project for Amblin Entertainment would see Sorkin write the screenplay and direct, with Marc Platt to produce.

At one point, back in 2008, Steven Spielberg planned to direct, but the project was put on hold because of a WGA strike.

Sorkin is now attached to the project after making his directorial debut with 2017’s Molly’s Game.

The infamous trial was also the subject of Brett Morgen’s 2007 documentary Chicago 10: Speak Your Peace and Jeremy Kagan’s 1987 docudrama Conspiracy: The Trial of the Chicago 8.

Sorkin’s adaptation of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird is set to open on Broadway in December.
