EASTENDERS fans were stunned when it was revealed Phil Mitchell was helping Alfie Moon flee Walford with baby Cherry.

At the end of tonight’s episode, Phil was seen handing Alfie two passports to help him and the tot leave the UK for good.

Yesterday Alfie, played by Shane Ritchie, managed to convince his wife Kat, Hayley, Stacey and Jean Slater he was dead.

And when their backs were turned, he made off with Cherry and disappeared into the night.

During the episode Hayley struggled to come to terms with the fact her baby daughter could be gone for good.

She turned on Kat and blamed her for stopping Hayley going to Cherry when she was crying upstairs.

Kat promised Hayley she would get the baby back and was seen calling Alfie.

She begged him to bring Cherry home and promised they hadn’t called the police on him.

Alfie missed the call and was seen sitting in his car just outside the Square.

Out of nowhere, Phil, actor Steve McFadden, appeared and slipped into the back seat.

Handing over the passports, he warned Alfie to rethink his decision but the wheeler dealer wasn’t listening.

Viewers admitted they were stunned when they realised Phil was helping Alfie take the baby away from her mum.

One tweeted: “Phil is helping Alfie? These Christmas episodes have really been a shocker!”

Another said: “So phil's helping Alfie? What a plot twist wasn't expecting that.”

While a third commented: “Phil and Alfie working together. Didn't expect that!”

After taking the documents, Alfie listened to the message Kat had left him on the phone.

When he put it down, he looked torn and viewers will now have to wait to find out whether he'll leave the UK for good, or return home to Kat.
