DiCaprio & Scorsese Circling Killers of the Flower Moon Adaptation

Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese may reteam by on Killers of the Flower Moon. In the 1970s, director Scorsese and actor Robert De Niro began a long artistic partnership that would see them team up to create some of the most memorable films of the last quarter of the 20th Century, including the classics Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and Goodfellas. In the early 2000s, Leonardo DiCaprio himself began teaming up with Scorsese and the two would go on to make five films together including the 2006 Best Picture winner The Departed.

For a lot of Scorsese devotees, the ultimate team-up would see the director working on the same film with both DiCaprio and De Niro, the two actors most important to him over the course of his long career. And now it looks like there is a sliver of hope that this legendary team-up could actually happen.

Imperative Entertainment is currently putting together a film adaptation of David Grann’s new book Killers of the Flower Moon, and according to Deadline, Scorsese, De Niro and DiCaprio have all shown interest in jumping aboard. Imperative reportedly paid $5 million for rights to the true crime book, set in the 1920s, which details the murders of a number of Osage Indians after oil was found on their Oklahoma land. Another Grann book, The Lost City of Z, has its own adaptation opening in theaters this week with Charlie Hunnam and Robert Pattinson.

Interestingly enough, DiCaprio already has a connection to one of the figures prominently featured in Killers of the Flower Moon. Grann’s book in part details the investigation into the Osage murders by a then-young FBI agent named J. Edgar Hoover, who would rise to prominence in part due to his role in that affair. DiCaprio played Hoover in the 2011 Clint Eastwood biopic J. Edgar, but despite his decades-spanning performance, failed to snag an Oscar nomination. Given DiCaprio’s age in comparison to Hoover’s age at the time Grann’s book is set, it seems unlikely the actor would be reprising that particular role, and it’s unlikely he would wish to do so anyway.

Before any Scorsese-DiCaprio-De Niro team-up can come to fruition, Scorsese and De Niro have another collaboration to work on, the Netflix-acquired gangster film The Irishman. That film already features a Scorsese all-star team, with Joe Pesci, Bobby Cannavale (Vinyl) and Harvey Keitel also reported to be in the cast. In addition to those Scorsese regulars, Al Pacino has taken on a role in the film as famed Teamsters leader Jimmy Hoffa, marking the first time Pacino and Scorsese have ever collaborated.

    Hey @Rhialto

While i was thrilled by the Netflix date for "The Irishman" (tentatively 2018), a movie that i have been waiting for since it's first announcement back in 2012/2013, this Martin/Leo/Bobby made my Day !
I'm pretty sure such a collaboration will produce another of Martin's marvels.
Not sure though how Leo & Bobby would rime together, We know that "Heat" was very hard to film since Bobby & Al didn't like to collaborate, and also "Righteous Kill" was a fiasco (IMAO).
