Dwayne Johnson will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, an honor recognizing both his box office success and his prolific philanthropic work. The actor starred in three major movies this year, including The Fate of the Furious, Baywatch, and the soon-to-be-released Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle – after a similarly packed schedule in 2016.

Johnson first made his name as a wrestler with WWF/WWE under his now-famous “The Rock” moniker. He then transitioned into film, gradually working his way up from his appearance as the Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns (2001) to starring roles in The Fast and the Furious franchise and other movies. And later this month, his status as a Hollywood star will be cemented on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Variety reports that Johnson will be honored in a ceremony on December 13, inducting him into the Hollywood Walk of Fame’s motion pictures category. The report quotes Ana Martinez, producer of Walk of Fame ceremonies: “Not only does Dwayne have a great personality and talent, but he also does a great amount of philanthropic work which is part of the criteria for earning an immortal spot on the Walk of Fame.” Johnson channels much of his philanthropy through The Rock Foundation — a charity that works with hospitalized children — which he founded in 2006.

On the big screen, next up for Johnson is Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, a standalone sequel to the 1995 classic. And in addition to acting, Johnson has taken on the role of producer. Together with Dany Garcia, he co-founded Seven Bucks Production, which has produced multiple projects, including Baywatch and Ballers, both of which star Johnson.

It’s tough to imagine someone objecting to Johnson’s presence on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He’s perhaps one of the least polarizing figures in the entertainment industry today — he’s played a role for everyone, be it as The Rock, as Maui in Moana, or as Luke Hobbs in The Fate of the Furious. And even if someone were to reject his acting, they’d be hard-pressed to do the same for his philanthropy. In the current political climate — in which each day seems to bring a new revelation about the abhorrent behavior of an admired entertainer — Johnson is a real rarity: a famous man who’s easy to love. It’s so easy to root for him, in fact, that there have been calls for Johnson to run for president.
