Drew Barrymore is no stranger to either horror – having starred in several films and TV series in the genre – or producing. She's bringing the two together for a new drama planned by US network The CW, Black Rose Anthology.

Barrymore and her Flower Films partner Nancy Juvonen are backing the new show, which will be overseen by Jill Blotevogel, responsible for writing the pilot. In a refreshing twist, the series, which will feature one-hour episodes, will be entirely written and directed by women, producing different stories for each entry.

The aim is to capture some of humanity's darkest fears from a female perspective – guilt, jealousy, repression, paranoia, insanity, sexual obsession and survival will all be tackled. It's still early days, and of course there's no information yet on when (assuming it makes it to series) it might show up in the UK.

As for her acting career, Barrymore will be back in comical horror territory for the second season of Santa Clarita Diet, headed to Netflix next year.
