In less than two weeks, The CW and CBS’ respective DC TV universes will collide when The Flash makes his way over to Supergirl. Right now, only the Scarlet Speedster will be hanging out with the Girl of Steel in National City, but thanks to the establishment of the DC TV multiverse, this initial pairing opens the door for future crossovers. In fact, the goal is to eventually throw in Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow with The Flash so Kara Zor-El can pal around with even more heroes from DC’s CW offerings.

The Flash star Grant Gustin made that clear during an interview with EW, mentioning that this crossover is setting the stage for possibly something bigger in the next TV season. As he put it:

That’s in the cards at this point. The whole point of us doing this crossover is setting up the fact that maybe next year we can cross over all of them.

Given how The Flash Season 2 has seen Barry and his allies learning about other universes, specifically through their interactions with Earth-2, it makes sense that he’s the first CW hero to team up with Supergirl. When Barry, Cisco Ramon and Harry Wells traveled to that other world in “Welcome to Earth-2,” one of the visions they saw was of Kara flying. It was later confirmed that Supergirl does indeed take place on a different Earth, so with Barry’s speed and his multiversal travel, that makes him the perfect candidate to get the ball rolling. Plus, both Supergirl and The Flash are lighthearted and optimistic shows, making it easier for them to pair together first rather than the darker Arrow or the more intense Legends of Tomorrow.

Whether more CW heroes go over to Supergirl or if Kara heads over to The CW, the prospect of seeing even one grand, Justice League-like event is exciting. Stephen Amell has expressed his own interest in his Green Arrow participating in a Supergirl crossover. Since Legends of Tomorrow has an ensemble cast, that doesn’t guarantee Kara will get to meet all of the titular squad, but at least a few of the main players need to appear. (Maybe they include a comment from Kara about how Brandon Routh’s Atom looks a look like her cousin. Wink, wink.)

As for this current crossover, Flash will make his way from Earth-1 (the CW DC Earth) to Earth-CBS accidentally and he comes across Supergirl in action. While trying to find a way back home, Barry will help Kara battle Livewire and Silver Banshee, who are teaming up to seek revenge against their former employer, Cat Grant. The Flash has already been renewed for a third season, and while CBS has yet to make an official announcement, CBS CEO Les Moonves recently said that the network is planning on renewing all five of their new shows, including Supergirl. So the chances of seeing her match heroics with her DC allies on another network are looking good.

The Supergirl/Flash crossover, titled “Worlds Finest,” airs Monday, March 28 at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
