Marvel Studios has delayed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to a Fall 2021 release date. Over the past two weeks, the coronavirus pandemic had led studios to completely overhaul their release slate for the spring and summer. It started with MGM postponing No Time to Die from April to November, which was subsequently followed by films ranging from A Quiet Place 2 to Black Widow being indefinitely delayed. Given the highly fluid nature of the COVID-19 outbreak, studios have been hesitant to settle on new release dates for most of these films right away.

That's begun to change recently, with Paramount moving A Quiet Place 2 to Labor Day weekend and studios like Sony shifting most of their Summer 2020 releases to sometime in 2021 instead. Elsewhere, it's become increasingly clear a number of films planned for next year after going to have to be pushed back, either because of their productions being put on-hold until further notice or as a direct result of all these release date changes. As of today, that's now happened to every movie Marvel scheduled to open in 2021, Doctor Strange 2 included.

As part of a massive update for their release slate over the next two years, Disney has announced Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will now hit theaters on November 5, 2021, rather than its original date next year on May 7. It will take the spot the Mouse House had previously reserved for Thor: Love & Thunder, which has shifted to early 2022 instead.
