Casting Denzel Washington as a retired spook who comes out of retirement when some bad guys get into his grill is such a no-brainer. So it’s a good thing the folks behind the upcoming big-screen adaptation of “The Equalizer” managed to rope ol Denzel into the role. Dude is going to slay this thing like something that’s never been slayed before. Mark my words.

In “The Equalizer”, Washington re-teams with his “Training Day” director Antoine Fuqua, fresh from blowing up the White House in “Olympus Has Fallen”. There probably won’t be that kind of mayhem in “The Equalizer”, though if the film is a hit, you can probably expect a sequel or two. This is a movie with definite franchise potential.

So, here’s your first look at Denzel from the movie, looking, er, very un-retired it that machine pistol in his hand is any indication.

“The Equalizer” co-stars Chloë Grace Moretz, Denzel Washington, Melissa Leo, Marton Csokas, Haley Bennett, and Vladimir Kulich. The film is still a long ways off, with a release date penciled in for September 26, 2014. I wonder why it’s taking so long to get a release date?
