Incredibles 2 is the latest Pixar film to be Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. The animation studio has a sterling reputation that dates back to 1995's Toy Story. Typically, their efforts earn widespread acclaim, winning over moviegoers of all ages with heartfelt tales that pack a strong emotional punch. Their track record is so spotless that rare misfires like Cars 2 stick out like a sore thumb. More often that not, Pixar is a definite winner.

Brad Bird's The Incredibles is one of Pixar's strongest titles, receiving the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2004. Fans spent many years clamoring for a sequel, and 14 years later, their wish finally came true. Followups are always a tricky proposition, however, and there was always the risk Incredibles 2 wouldn't be able to live up to the very high expectations viewers have. Fortunately, Bird's latest didn't disappoint.

Rotten Tomatoes updated their Incredibles 2 page today to reflect that the film is now Certified Fresh. As of this writing, it has 85 reviews counted (81 are fresh) and an average rating of 8.2/10. That score is quite similar to the original, which has a sparkling Rotten Tomatoes score of 97 percent. Of Pixar's now 20 feature films, 18 of them have the Certified Fresh seal of approval.

With this development, Bird cements himself as one of Pixar's best directors. His Ratatouille (which won an Oscar in 2007) has a 96 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, meaning all three of his films for the studio are in the mid-to-high 90s. There are still several Incredibles 2 reviews to come over the next few days (meaning the score could fluctuate a bit), but it'll likely stay in this ballpark. Once again, Pixar has one of the best-reviewed films of the summer and Incredibles 2 could be an early frontrunner for awards this year. The studio does have a bit of a mixed track record when it comes to followups (the Cars sequels are their lowest-rated films), so it's encouraging to see Incredibles 2 is more in the neighborhood of the Toy Story franchise and Finding Dory. Critics are in agreement the sequel doesn't reach the artistic heights of the original, but it's still a great time at the movies.

This extremely positive word-of-mouth should have a positive effect on Incredibles 2's box office, which was already projected to be the largest in Pixar history. With Solo: A Star Wars Story falling short commercially the last few weeks, there's been a void in the marketplace for a four-quadrant crowdpleaser. Incredibles 2 certainly fits that bill, and with kids now off from school, families will be flocking to the theater to see what's next for the Parrs.
