Deadpool and Gotham star Morena Baccarin is set to fight for her very survival on a remote island in the upcoming thriller film The Beast. Baccarin has been acting regularly on the big and small screens since the early 2000s, and in that time has become a favorite of the geek community. Part of this is her choice in projects, but a lot is also due to the charismatic, assertive presence she brings to the majority of her characters.

Most people first became aware of Baccarin's talents thanks to her role as Inara Serra on Joss Whedon's short-lived but highly treasured space opera TV series Firefly. She also played recurring roles on The O.C. and Stargate SG-1. In 2009, Baccarin played lead alien invader Anna on ABC's reboot of V, which ran for two seasons, before landing the series regular role of Jessica Brody on the first few years of Showtime's Emmy-magnet drama Homeland. 2015 brought Baccarin one of her juiciest roles, that of Dr. Lee Thompkins on Gotham. Baccarin would actually go on to marry co-star Ben McKenzie after playing his love interest on the show. Amusingly, he didn't remember her from The O.C.

Baccarin of course also played Vanessa Carlyle in both Deadpool movies, proving to be a great counterpart for Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson, even if she did die for a while. Now, THR reports that Baccarin will play the lead role in an upcoming survival thriller called The Beast.

Deadpool's Morena Baccarin Stars In Survival Thriller The Beast

The Beast is the first film project to be made as a result of a lucrative partnership between Japanese company Rakuten and Los Angeles-based production studio The H Collective. Norwegian director Espen Sandberg will helm The Beast, which shouldn't be confused with the 1991 Peter Benchley novel of the same name. Sandberg previously directed Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales for Disney. and most recently the biopic Amundsen, which concerned the first man to arrive at the South Pole.

Morena Baccarin stars in The Beast as a woman who survives a plane crash, only to face a whole new set of challenges. She's stranded on a remote island in the South Pacific, and must battle her own personal demons, as well as some type of "unimaginable" external threat, in order to return home and reunite with her kids. What exactly this threat is remains unclear, but by the film's title, it seems likely to be some kind of giant monster or supernatural creature looking to make Baccarin's character into a meal.
