According to a new rumor, not only will there be a Deadpool 3, but David Leitch will be returning to direct. The first Deadpool was such a success that fans were demanding a third part before Deadpool 2 hit theaters. Ryan Reynolds put a damper on the excitement when he stated his belief that Deadpool 3 might not happen. The Disney/Fox merger raised further concerns about the future of the franchise. But signs appear to indicate that Disney has no plans on retiring the Merc with a Mouth.

While the fate of Deadpool’s standalone franchise is still uncertain, his time on the silver screen is far from over. Reynolds is set to reprise his role in the upcoming X-Force film, which is being directed by Drew Goddard. Audiences were first introduced to X-Force during Deadpool 2. Seeing how most of the team ended up dead, it's unclear if all or only part of Deadpool’s super duper group will reunite. Currently, only some of the X-Force actors confirmed to return, besides Reynolds, are Josh Brolin (Cable) and Zazie Beetz (Domino).

GWW reports that Deadpool 2 director David Leitch is slated to return for Deadpool 3. The site urges caution since there has been no confirmation, but the rumor sounds plausible considering the recent film's critical and commercial success.

If Leitch is indeed going to direct Deadpool 3, odds are that production on the film wouldn’t begin for at least another year. Leitch is also set to direct the Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs & Shaw as well as the movie adaptation of Ubisoft’s The Division. The projects will leave him little time to tackle another Deadpool movie right away.

It looks like the plan is to focus on X-Force and see how things go from there. Work on X-Force had to be pushed back while Goddard finishes his current project Bad Times at the El Royale. Yet fans can feel confident that Deadpool and company will return before too long. Disney CEO Bob Iger has expressed interest in keeping the franchise alive and with its R-rating. Just how much free rein Disney will give Deadpool is currently unknown. At least it appears that the company doesn’t wish to tinker too much with what made the first two films successes. Any news on X-Force and Deadpool 3 is mostly speculation at this point. But it looks like audiences can expect future installments to contain the same feel that made them fall in love with the franchise in the first place.
