Deadpool 2 is almost in theaters, and while fans will see a number of new characters like Cable, they’ll also see the return of a number of old ones, including Colossus, who will have an important role. The sequel to the beloved R-Rated title has kicked off its promotional campaign, which continues to add a touch of humor to the more serious X-Men franchise. Deadpool introduced a number of smaller X-Men characters and, much like the title character himself, brought rejuvenated life back into fans excited for mutants.

The sequel will see mutants in spades, particularly the new mutants Cable and Domino. Domino, played by Zazie Beetz, is garnering new attention at Marvel with a comic by former Deadpool writer Gail Simone. She’s made a splash in the recent trailer as well but the primary focus of the marketing has been on Josh Brolin’s Cable, a character beloved by fans. Helped along by social media posts from Brolin as well as the famous Deadpool marketing team, X-Men fans have been pulling for the character to appear on screen. Great talent doesn’t work alone however, and these new characters will be joined by several of the beloved faces from the first film.

According to Inverse, one of these faces will have a much bigger role. Colossus, played by Stefan Kapicic, will have an expanded role and be central to the film’s overarching plot. Colossus, much like the rest of the X-Men, has his own collection of fans and according to Kapicic, they won’t be disappointed. The actor even teased that they’d go “crazy” when seeing the final product.

Colossus is one of the most important characters, besides Deadpool and Cable, and you will see why. Colossus is important for this story. People who love Colossus are going to be crazy. All these new characters, so many surprises in this trailer. This is just the beginning.
In the first film, Colossus was a significant character who acted as a mentor to Brianna Hildebrand’s Negasonic Teenage Warhead. For the second, Kapicic called working on the film “a pleasure,” perhaps confirming his character’s expanded role. Both Kapicic and Hildebrand will be returning for the sequel, although if the trailer is any indication Hildebrand has become a full-fledged X-man. Thanks to the Deadpool 2 marketing team, fans can start speculating about just what Deadpool 2 might entail and how it ties into what people know about the plot outside of Ryan Reynolds’ comedic antics.

For a film that’s got time travel, Cable, potentially teases the existence of the mutant messiah, and Wade Wilson himself, Deadpool 2 has a lot going on. If there are any tie-in storylines between Cable and Colossus, fans might want to start speculating now about just what the series is setting up and how it all ties into X-Force, the forthcoming X-Men adaptation that will feature the Merc with a Mouth. While the film heads to reshoots, thankfully fans will have plenty of time to discuss just how it all ties together into one big merry mutant package.
