Netflix and Marvel are gearing up for their next shoot as The Punisher season 2 aims to begin filming at the end of the month. Marvel has found great success in bringing content to Netflix, and it didn’t take long to expand upon the original agreement. While initially the plan was for four series leading towards The Defenders, the second season of Daredevil introduced Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, and he quickly stole the spotlight. Both sides agreed that he warranted a series all his own.

The first season was such a hit that they didn’t wait long to announce it was coming back. That was just two months ago, but the second season is quickly picking up steam. There’s most recently been teases of the potential story. Based on the latest report, it won’t be much longer before Bernthal reports to set.

SpoilerTV revealed that season 2 of The Punisher is set to begin filming at the end of the month – specifically on February 26. That is just two weeks away, so information on the second season could pick up quickly. There has so far been no official word on who will return to star alongside Bernthal, but showrunner Steve Lightfoot is back to helm the new season. The report also states that production will wrap July 20.

Should this start date be accurate, it will mark an incredibly quick turnaround for season 2. Maybe it is because of this that there’s been so little coverage on the second season, and how it possibly even developed under the radar. Still, it is likely that the second season will feature a mixture of returning faces and new ones. Micro (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), Sarah Lieberman (Jaime Ray Newman), Dinah Madani (Amber Rose Revah), and Billy Russo (Ben Barnes) are the most likely candidates to reappear.

Even though filming could begin very soon and be done this summer, there could still be a major wait to see it. Netflix’s Marvel slate is already packed. Season 2 of Jessica Jones is out next month, and new seasons of Daredevil and Luke Cage are expected this year. Meanwhile, the next season of Iron Fist is currently filming, but that will likely join The Punisher in kicking off the Marvel related content on Netflix in 2019. Where this corner of the MCU goes from there and if The Punisher continues beyond season 2 remains to be seen. Thankfully, there’s plenty of content to come for now, including the future season of Frank Castle’s story.

The Punisher season 2 is expected to debut in 2019 on Netflix.
