No Tomorrow actress, Marta Milans joins the cast of Shazam! , as one of Billy Baston’s foster parents. Directed by David F. Sandberg of Annabelle: Creation fame, the upcoming DC Films standalone project stars Asher Angel as its lead star opposite Zachary Levi, who plays the young actor’s titular superhero alter-ego. It wasn’t exactly an easy road for Shazam! to come this far.

After several reports pointing to the inclusion Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam villain, Warner Bros. ultimately scrapped the idea and opted to focus on the introduction of Billy into the DC Universe and establishing the dynamic between him and Shazam. Now, the project is already gearing to start principal photography in Canada as its cast prepares to take on their respective gigs . Meanwhile, behind-the-scenes, casting for supporting players continues. As of now, the roster includes Grace Fulton , Jack Dylan Grazer , Ian Chen and Jovan Armand as Billy’s friends, as well as confirmation that Mark Strong is indeed playing the story’s antagonist, Doctor Silvana.

Deadline reveals Milans has been tapped to join the DC Films project, joining a slew of actors that have already been confirmed for the standalone. While the report did not explicitly reveal what Milans’ role will be other than the fact that she will one of the foster parents at the home where Billy resides, we presume that she will take the role of Rosa Vasquez. Together with her husband Victor, who may be played by The Walking Dead alum, Cooper Andrews , the two serve as the official guardians of Billy and his foster siblings Mary, Freddy, Eugene, Pedro, and Darla in the pages of the comics.

The development is one of the last minute casting announcements for Shazam! before it heads to principal photography just in time for its set April 2019 release date . Prior to Milans boarding the project, news broke out that Marvel’s Luke Cage and This Is Us star Ron Cephas Jones is in active talks to also join the flick as the Wizard — an enigmatic being who is the one to grant young Billy of his ability to transform into a superhero.

Levi and Angel’s chemistry with each other is a crucial part that Sandberg has to nail in order to sell the notion of this youngster morphing into a grown-up superhero but maintaining his quirks and childlike personality. Unlike your average superhero with an alter-ego, Shazam! has two actors who supposedly play the same character, just in different physical embodiment — an idea which believability largely hinges on the performance of the two lead stars. Otherwise, both would be uncompelling and that would be detrimental to the movie as a whole. Fortunately, it doesn’t look like there’s anything to worry about the project, the director sounds confident on taking the task at hand, even urging fans to be patient with the film he’s working on.
